Clear and cold. Eddie and his father spent the day and eve. in town. Girls went to Sun. school, the rest of us to church. Jim and Sandra went to M.Y.F. in eve.
Mon. Jan . 2nd
Clear and cold. Eddie and his father spent the day and eve. in town. Alfred Darrow came back from Camden about noon. Leo and family were here to supper. Everett and Freda went to church board meeting in eve.
Tues. Jan. 3rd
Snowed 4-5 in. then rained. Eddie and his father left in A.M. for West Virginia. Alfred and Mr. Miller didn’t go to school (car in garage) Mr. Miller here all A.M. Nellie Sylvester acting as post mistress. Sandra baby-sat at Mary Bangs’ (P.T.A.)
Wed. Jan 4th
Cloudy, mild day. Sandra went to choir rehearsal in eve. Everett and Alfred to senior rehearsal. Freda, Mayota and I making quilts all our spare time.
Thurs. Jan. 5th
Cloudy and mild. Everett went rabbit hunting with “Bessie”(dog) all day. He and Freda went out in eve.
Fri. Jan. 6th
Beautiful mild day. I went to Falls with Everett in morn. Called at Stewart's and Laura’s. Had dinner with Maude, then went to Lillian Guenther’s and Ruth Tarr’s. Dick and Ruth took me to mill to ride home with Everett. Dick able to be out after being in hospital five weeks with coronary thrombosis.
Sat. Jan 7th
Nice day, colder. Children went to rehearsal in A.M. and Everett took all of us except Freda to M.Y.F. entertainment at Bailey Is. Alfred and Everett helped to entertain. Jim and Sandra stayed to dance.
Sun. Jan 8th
Very little snow then heavy winds and rain thru the day and eve. Freda, James, Alfred and I went to church. Mr. + Mrs. Miller brot us home and stayed to dinner and supper. He showed us pictures in P.M. of Cherokee Indians. Sandra and Mayota went to Sun. school. Sandra, James and Alfred went to M.Y.F. at Bailey’s Island.

Rain and wind. Everett and Freda spent the day in Lisbon Falls, Brunswick and dinner at Gramp Small’s. Alfred had supper out and evening.
Tues. Jan. 10
Rainy day. Everett, Freda and I went to Bailey’s Is. in A.M. Winnie and Harry, Jr. came down to dinner and spent P.M. Mr. and Mrs. Miller called in eve. Jim went to Bath with Abbott Fletcher in eve. to a lesson on electronics and engineering, etc.

Showery, mild. Freda called on the Wadells in P.M. Everett and Alfred went to choir practice in eve.

Showery all day and eve. I went down to Susie Houghton’s in P.M. to see her mother.

Dark, cloudy day, heavy rain in eve. Freda and I walked down to store in P.M. Everett took the family and Alfred to “Teen-age” party at Bailey’s Is.

Showery, dark. We all went to Bailey Is. church supper at Library Hall.
Sun. Jan. 15
Showery and dark. Girls went to Sun. school. The rest of us went to church. Jim Sandra and Alfred went to M.Y.F.

Sun shone for a very few minutes, light rain and very little snow.
Tues. Jan. 17
Few sprinkles of snow during night and day. Everett took Freda and me on a ride out by Bunganuc and South Freeport – home by Brunswick in A.M. Jimmie went to Bath with Mr. Fletcher for electronics lesson in eve.
Wed. Jan. 18
First good day since Jan. 7th. Everett and Freda spent the day in Portland and visiting at Chester’s etc. Mrs. Fletcher has curvature of the spine. Sandra and Alfred went to choir practice.
Thurs. Jan. 19
Very nice day. Everett took Ronny Mowatt and some of the boys to Brunswick High in morn. Car wouldn’t start – then he helped get Mr. Miller’s car going so the rest could go to school. He took me to Greene to keep Alice Keegan (her arm bad) after meeting Gramp Small at Bruns- Bank.

Clear, zero at store. Harry went to see Dr. Russell after work.

Nice day. Pauline Ricker came down to lunch and spent P.M. William and Evelyn came down in eve.

Mostly cloudy – clear in eve. Bill and Sue spent P.M. with us then I went up to William's and Evelyn's for supper and spent eve. Dr. Desjardines came up to fix Alice’s feet in late P.M.

Snowed very little in A.M. I went down to Bill’s and Sue’s in P.M. with Wm. and Evelyn to dinner and supper. Vera and Larry at Bill’s for dinner. Bobby came to supper. Harry Staples and Chases dined at Eagle hotel in Brunswick.

Snowed from 2-3 in. Herbert Foxon (Cecile Tanguay’s husband) died very suddenly at C.M.G. hospital in eve.

Beautiful day. Everett and Freda came after me in P.M.

Nice day. Freda and I rode to Brunswick in A.M. with Everett. Sandra, Everett and Alfred went to choir practice.
Thurs. Feb. 2nd
Began snowing in A.M. Got 5-6 in of wet snow. Everett got out of bed in early P.M. to take Mr. Miller and Alfred to College for exams.

Beautiful day. Freda and Alfred went to “Teen-age” party at Bailey Is.
Sat. Feb. 4th
Snowed about 5 in during night. Freda baby-sat at home for Fletchers in eve.

Beautiful day. Children went to Sun. school. We all went to church (Except Everett – sleeping. Sandra, James and Alfred went to M.Y.F. Everett and Freda went out to supper. Johnny Reid, Glenda and Vicky called in eve.
Mon. Feb. 6th
Cloudy in P.M. Began snowing in eve. Freda went to church Board meeting in eve. Glenda, Winnie and Vicky Reid called in eve while their husbands were working in our garage. Alfred stayed up to College to play chess. He won two games making him champion at Bowdoin.

About eight inches of heavy wet snow fell during the night and early morn. No school.

Very nice mild day. Sandra and Alfred went to choir rehearsal.
Thurs. Feb. 9th
Mild, partly cloudy. Everett and Freda spent the day at Gramp Small’s. Left me at Stewart’s They came back to to Stewart’s to supper.

Cloudy. Freda and Everett went out in A.M. planning “teen-age” party.
Sat. Feb. 11
Had a “rainbow” supper party in honor of Alfred Darrow’s 21st birthday. Mr. Miller and Patty came to supper and spent the evening.

Very light snow fall and little rain during night, cloudy day. Sandra went to Sunday school (Mayota sick). All family (except Mayota) went to church in A.M. Freda, James and I went in eve.

Partly cloudy. Alfred went done home in eve. with Rev. Miller and Patty.
Tues. Feb. 14
Beautiful mild day. Alfred arrived back from Camden about 3 A.M. Jimmie went to Bath with Mr. Fletcher in eve. for electronic lesson.

Cloudy, mild. Everett, Sandra and Alfred went to choir practice. Very little rain in eve.
Thurs. Feb. 16
Nice day, colder. Freda visited Mayota’s school in P.M. She and Everett went out in eve.
Fri. Feb. 17
Partly cloudy. Freda and Mr. Haddon took the “Teen-age” group to a “Progressive” supper. I went to “World Day of Prayer” service at church in eve. then downstairs to dessert with the “Teen-age” group.
Sat. Feb. 18
Began snowing in A.M. Mayota spent the day with Margaret Skilling at Bailey Is. The rest of us worked upstairs in the annex after Everett and Jimmie went hunting a short time in the morn. after taking Alfred to College. Alfred helped paint in the P.M. Mr. Gilliam came to play with Everett and Jim. In eve.

Snowed 5-6 in. in night. Beautiful day, mild. Girls went to Sun. school. All the rest of us (except Mayota went to church. Johnny Read called in P.M. All of us went to church at Bailey Is. in eve.
Mon. Feb. 20
Nice day. We all took Alfred up to College in morn. then went to Kittery and took the “Turnpike” to Augusta. Called on Frances and Grammy Small on way home.
Tues. Feb. 21
Nice day, colder. Everett took Alfred up to College. I rode up too. Everett, Jimmie and Sandi put in most of day painting in annex – upper hall and stairs.
Wed. Feb. 22
Fair, colder. Everett, Freda and Jim took Sandra to Gramp Small’s for visit in morn. and brot back Marie Flarety for visit in P.M. They took Alfred to College. Alfred went to choir practice.
Thurs. Feb. 23
Slightly above zero, clear. Everett went to work early to attend U.S.G. Banquet at Lisbon Villa. Mr. Miller called in eve.
Fri. Feb. 24
Partly cloudy. Alfred not feeling well so stayed at home. Jim went with the “teen-agers” rollerskating up near Cook’s Corner.
Sat. Feb. 25
Light snow fall during the night, heavy rain during the day. Freda went to meeting of “Teen-age” Committee at Library in P.M. Leo and family. Leo and family came to supper.
Sun. Feb. 26
Fair and colder, wind blew a gale all night and most of day. Freda took Mary Bangs’ Sunday school class. Jim went to S. school. Alfred and I joined them at church. Girls had colds. Mr. Miller called at noon. All but Alfred and Sandra went to church in eve.

Partly cloudy. Sandra at home with a cold.
Tues. Feb. 28
Snowed about 4-5 in. in early A.M. then faired off in P.M. Alfred stayed at College to play “Chess” in eve. Jimmie made his last trip to Bath with Mr. Fletcher for lesson.
Wed. Feb. 29
Fair, colder. Mayota at home sick. President Eisenhower decided to run for second term. I went to Falls and to Brunswick with Everett shopping.

Nice day. Freda and Everett went to Litchfield in morn. then to Falls to take Freda to Dr. Spear's. Everett went to work at 3 P.M. Mayota at home sick.
Fri. Mar. 2nd
Showery part of day. Sandra went to “Teen-age” party at Bailey’s Is. She won five dollars (prize) for composition she wrote in contest.

Beautiful warm day for “Town meeting”. Alfred stayed at College for chess. Came home at midnight with Everett. Lena Rideout passed away.

Very mild, snowed very little in early morn. Mayota went to Sun. school. Everett, Alfred and I went to church. Jim and Alfred went to evening service and to M.Y.F. at Bailey’s.

Very light snow fall, colder. Freda and Everett went to church board meeting in eve. Had callers in early eve. to play music. Oscar Leeman passed away.
Tues. Mar. 6th
Nice day. We moved beds all over the house in eve. James at home with bad cold.
Wed. Mar. 7th
Snowed lightly most of day. Everett went to Bill’s after work. Sandra went to choir rehearsal, also Everett and Alfred.
Thurs. Mar. 8th
Snowed lightly a damp slippery snow, very bad traveling. Bill and Sue planned to come down to stop over night but gave it up. The Albert Doughtys up in eve. to play also Madelyn Stilphen and Mr. Gilliam. Mr. Miller called in P.M. No school. Ronny Mowatt and Theberge boy here most of day.
Fri. Mar. 9th
Good day. Ethel Linscott brot the books of the church treasurer up in P.M. for Alfred to audit. Everett, Freda, James and I went to P.T.A. meeting at Bailey’s in eve. “Six teen-agers” on a discussion panel, Jim, Ralph Johnson(winners), Cliff Johnson, Lee Theberge, Arthur Johnson and Jeff Johnson.

Beautiful day. We all went to Lewiston shopping and get Sandra a typewriter. Then we came to Falls, Everett went to a meeting of his men at the mill at 3 P.M. Freda went to Jennie Carlson’s, Jim went to “movies” and I went up to Ruth Tarr’s to see Evie, then to Mary Feltham’s (sick in bed) and to Della Ordway’s. Alfred went home from College.

Light rain most of day. We all went to church in A.M. Lawrence Porter, district Supt. From Portland helped Mr. Miller hold communion services. Business meeting after services, Everett appointed Treasurer (Taking Ethel Linscott’s office) Mr. Miller up in P.M. James and I went to church in eve. Only 7 there besides Mr. Miller.

Partly cloudy. I went to dump with Everett and Freda in P.M. then they went to Litchfield to supper. Doris came down in late P.M. After supper I went back home with her for a visit. The Hodgkins girls Doris’ (their great grandmother sick) Connie Marquis living at Doris. To finish high school.
Tues. Mar. 13
Partly cloudy. Doris took Donna to school (she missed the bus) then she went to Gray and brot Catherine, Carol and Bruce Parker up to dinner. We took them back in early P.M. Doris took Marian Sawyer’s (Mrs. Thompson) to hospital in Portland in eve. (Marian in hospital). She left me at Joe’s for the eve. We called at Coles on way home.

Snowed nearly all day – 4-5 inches. Doris went after Jackey in morn. John and Priscilla came after her in eve.

Nice day. Doris, Connie and I went to Cath-‘s in eve. to play “Rook”. Connie home all day (sick). Maxine Hodgkins grandmother passed away in early eve.

Cloudy, windy, began snowing in P.M. Doris went to Gray in A.M. and in P.M.

Stopped snowing in early morn. 6-8 inches, cloudy, snow squalls in eve. Doris took Connie to choir rehearsal in eve. (there was none). Arnold went to school board meeting (there was none). Roads filled up badly.

Good day, cold. They all went to church except Galen and me. John and family down in P.M. Connie walked up to Hodgkins’ in P.M. – stayed to supper and came home with Arnold after church.

Snowed a little in eve. cloudy. Doris took me to Cath’s in eve. for a few days. Roy and Judy came over in eve.

Clear and mild. Catherine, carol and I went to morning breakfast party at Mrs. Folesby’s then we called at Jury’s. She took me to Bessie’s in P.M. We went over to Esther’s then I went to Maggie Verrill’s to see Lew and Mattie. Roy Libby took me back to Cath’s. I had supper with Roy and Judy and spent the eve.

Beautiful day. Doris took me to her house in A.M. I went up to Mrs. Morrison’s in P.M. when Dot went to store. The Hodgkins children, their Uncle George and son and Billy Bragdon came in eve. Doris went to St. Mary’s hospital in eve to see Alta Foster and Merritt Timothy. Funeral services for Roy Douglas in Portland.

Beautiful day. Doris and Cath- went to Lewiston in P.M. Connie’s mother was out in eve.

Snowed about 8 in. in Portland. Just a wee bit of snow in Bangor, clear in P.M. Arnold, Doris, Donnie, Dickey Hodgkins and I went to Orono to U of M to see Earland. We all went to Old Town to dinner and came home by Waterville and had supper with Dick and Ruth Morrison. I called on Aunt Edith and Ben Benson. John and family down in eve.

Snowed lightly most of day. Estelle and Marion Smith arrived by plane from Albany, N.Y. in P.M. They stayed at Brunswick Thurs. night Mr. Miller up in P.M. We all went to church in eve. to Good Friday service. Mr. Gilliam came up in eve.

Mostly cloudy, light squalls (snow) in P.M. Jim, Freda and Mayota worked down at the church part of the day getting ready for Easter breakfast.
Sun. Apr. 1st
Beautiful Easter day. Everett took all the family down to church at 5.30 A.M. then went to work. Had communion service then about 36 to breakfast beside the kitchen help and waitresses. We all went back to regular service at 11 A.M. Estelle and Marian Smith went with us. Mr. Miller called at noon. Leo and family came down in P.M. to leave Gerry for a week while Frances went to Mass. with Leo (taking a course in garage business) Jim went to Bailey’s to M.Y.F. Freda and I went down to eve. service.

Nice day. Everett and Freda and Gerry took Estelle and Marian Smith to Brunswick in A.M. when they went shopping, etc. (The Smiths went to Boston for visit and from there, home to Albany, N.Y. Alfred came back from his vacation in P.M. I went to the dump with Ev-in P.M. then Freda, Gerry and I made another trip to Brunswick to bank. Freda and Everett went to went to church board meeting in eve. Everett put on pastoral committee. Rev. Thomas Brindley’s death in paper.

Cloudy all day. Sandra spent the day at Brunswick High school with her class and their teacher, Mrs. Dunn. Mr. Miller called in A.M. Tornados over many sections on U.S.
Wed. Apr. 4th
Foggy, rainy day, distant thunder shower in eve. Freda and Jerry went to Brunswick in P.M. with Mrs. Fletcher and children. Freda went to Library Hall on Bailey’s Is. to baby shower for Patty Miller given by people of both islands.
Thurs. Apr. 5th
Clear, sunny day. Sandra, Everett and Alfred went to choir practice.
Fri. Apr. 6th
Nice day. Everett, Freda, Jerry and I went to Brunswick in P.M. Met Jimmie at the barber’s and brot him home also Arthur and Cliff Johnson. Everett, Freda, Jim, Alfred and I went o supper at church vestry (to help children go to summer camp at Winthrop) Leo and family came down in eve after Jerry.

Good day. Albert Doughty and wife, Madelyn Stilphen and Mr. Gilliam here in eve. to play.
Sun. Apr. 8th
Snowed nearly all day. We all went to church in A.M. Ralph Miller brot Patty up after dinner while he was calling. They both stayed for supper and spent eve. Everett didn’t go to work. Heavy snow fall in N.Y. and other New England states also Penn.
Mon. Apr. 9th
Cloudy with few squalls. Gramp and Gram Small (and baby) and Mrs. Rogers came down in P.M. Mr. Miller called in eve. collecting money for Mr. Edgar Dunlap who lost his lobster boat (run into out in the ocean by Jim Harris).
Tues. Apr. 10
Nice day. Everett, Freda and I went to Randolph in A.M. to the garage Leo is getting ready to open. Hazel Johnson came down in A.M. Stayed over night.
Wed. Apr. 11
Partly cloudy. Miss Johnson went back to her trailer on Mere Pt. road in P.M. Melbourne Craig died of injuries received at Worumbo mill. Everett took Sandra, Jim, Phyllis Johnson, Jackie Williams and me to spelling contest of Harpswell schools at Cundy’s Harbor. Doris Graves of Harpswell won out. Funeral services at U.B. church at Lisbon Falls for Mrs. Phair Jones.
Tues. Apr. 12
Nice day. Freda too care of Max Fletcher in P.M. and went to W.S.C.S. at Bailey Is. in eve. Bessie Libby in hospital again (Maine General) for phlebitis.
Wed. Apr. 13
Nice day. Freda went to Hilda’s in A.M. when Everett went to work and came home with him at 11 P.M. Mr. Miller up in eve. Winnie Reid called in eve.
Sat. Apr. 14
Good day. All but Sandra went to Leo’s garage in Randolph in early morn. to have the car inspected. Called at Phil Rowe’s on way home. Mr. Miller up in eve.
Sun. Apr. 15
Mostly cloudy. Began raining in early eve. Russell Stevens brot Clara down in A.M. for a visit. She went to church with us. Alfred, Jim and Sandra went to M.Y.F. at Bailey’s Is. I went to evening service with Mr. Miller at Topsham Baptist church. Larry Young (Mary + Lewis' boy) was killed by a car while he was riding a bicycle in P.M. Darrell Libby was driver of the car.

Mr. Miller up in P.M. Showery day. Guy Butterfield passed away in nursing home.
Tues. Apr. 17
Good day. Everett took Alfred to College and Freda, Mrs. Stevens (Clara) and Sandra to Chester’s in early morn. to breakfast then Marian took them to Lewiston to shop for Sandra’s graduation clothes. Ralph and Patty Miller came to supper and spent eve. Mr. Mrs. Albert Doughty, Madelyn Stilphen and Mr. Gilliam came in eve to play.

Good day. Jimmie went to Camden with Mr. Miller and Patty in eve. to stay a few days to help Mr. Miller clean up his house down there. Body of Mr. Charles Merriman (70+) of Harpswell found. Missing since Feb. 28th when he committed suicide.
Thurs. Apr. 19
Light shower in P.M. Clara spent the P.M. with Ethel Doughty. Sandra, Everett and Alfred went to choir rehearsal in eve.
Fri. Apr. 20
Fair. James and Mr. Miller came back from Camden. Freda, Clara and Sandra went to church in eve to help teen-agers with their scavenger hunt. Mr. Haddon spending several weeks in Mass. hospital for operation.
Sat. Apr. 21
Few snow flakes in early morn. then fair. Over and inch of snow at Gramp Small’s. Jim and Everett found the motor up near driveway to Lincoln place that was stolen from his boat last Sept. Everett, Freda, Mayota, Clara, Jim and I went to Bailey Is. then to Brunswick in P.M. Freda took care of Max and Judy Fletcher in eve.

Cold, windy day. Fire at Dunning’s on Great Is. burned barn, shed, lobster traps and furniture (stored) in A.M. We all went to church. Mr. Miller up most of P.M. Mae Belle Wilson and Sally Durgin called in P.M. Everett and Freda took Clara Stevens home in P.M. I went to Topsham Baptist church in eve. with Mr. Miller and Andrew Jackson.

Snowed nearly all day four-five inches. I went to Brunswick with Everett in A.M. Freda, Everett and I went up to Gramp Small’s in eve. and took them to Florence Libby’s with us to a party for Rev. and Mrs. Harry Bowman visiting here from Cal. Cleared away in eve.

Cold and windy. Everett worked on boat at Skilling’s. Freda went out in P.M. Albert Doughty and Wife, Madelyn Stilphen and Mr. Gilliam here to play in eve. Snow gone.
Wed. Apr. 25
Nice day. Everett worked on boat. Freda out in P.M. Estelle Smith arrived in P.M. for summer. Mayota came home with bad ankle.
Thurs. Apr. 26
April showers. Freda went down St. in P.M. and in eve. Sandra, Everett and Alfred went to choir rehearsal.
Fri. Apr. 27
Mostly cloudy, showery in eve. Fortin sent some men down with a gas heater for us to set up in the living room on trial. Everett, Freda and I went to Brunswick in P.M. Jim and Sandra went to ball game at Bailey Is. Funeral services for Maude Malloon, died suddenly at Litchfield.

Mostly cloudy. Everett and Freda went to dump in eve. They picked up Mayota, James and me on way back and we rode to “Land’s End”. Sandra went to Rifle Range, no teacher there.

Misty, showery day and thunder eve. We all went to church in A.M. Mr. and Mrs. Miller came up to dinner. I went up to Topsham Bap. Church with Ralph and Patty Miller and Andrew Jackson in eve.

Fair and cool. Freda, Estelle Smith, Mrs. Harvey Johnson from Bailey’s Is. went to May breakfast at Bruns- Methodist church in early morn. while Everett and I bot groceries then Ev- took us all to Merrymeeting Bay to see the wild geese. Everett and Freda went out in eve. Coldest May day in Portland for 86 years.

Partly cloudy. Fortin’s man finished putting in gas heater in big room upstairs. Mr. and Mrs. Bryson of Long Island N.Y. came in P.M. to board also two strays for lunch at noon.

Misty and rainy. Everett and Freda went to Bath in A.M. Mayota and I went to Susie Houghton’s in eve. to see “Phine”.

Cloudy, showers in eve. Everett and Freda took Sandra up to Dr. Dubois in Brunswick to get her eyes tested and get glasses in A.M. Jim and Sandra went to “Teen-age” dance (Ballroom dance teacher) Freda went to rummage sale at vestry in P.M.

Fair and cool. Everett put his big boat into the water, Freda and children went down. Gramp Small called in P.M. Lucien Johnson here to supper and spent the night.

Fair, cool. Mr. and Mrs. Bryson spent the day at their cottage as usual. ‘the rest of us went to church. Had part of service out of doors planting seeds – Rural Life Sunday. Gramp and Gram Small, Marie Flarrity and Mrs. Rogers came down in P.M. Mr. and Mrs. Miller spent the eve. with us.

Nice day, very cool. Everett and Freda went to church board meeting in eve. Hazel Lowell Stewart buried at W. Bowdoin. Died in Florida.

Snowed a few flakes during night, heavy frost in morn. Clear and windy, 1° below zero on Mt. Washington in morn. Freda and I went after dandelions in P.M. and called on Estelle Smith. Chester and Marian down in eve.

Fair and windy, rained in eve. The Brysons left in morn. for their own cottage. Mr. Gilliam came in eve. to play. Everett took us to Bailey’s Is. to see the “wild waves”.

Fair most of day, showers in morn. Everett took Freda and Sandra to Brunswick on late P.M. to get Sandra’s glasses at Dubois’ and hair cuts for Everett and Jim. Margaret Skillings came to supper. She and Mayota helped furnish program for W.S.C.S. in eve., for Freda.

Fair, cool. Alfred went home for week-end. Mrs. Fletcher and children over in P.M. Everett took Sandra and Jimmie to “Teen-age” Ball-room dancing lesson at Bailey Is.

Showery in early morn. then cleared away. Everett and Jim went to Randolph to Leo’s filling station in A.M. Freda took care of Judy and Maxey Fletcher all day and half of the night while their mother and father were in Boston. Sandra bot a white rabbit of Joey Peterson.

First warm day of spring, few light showers, distant thunder shower in P.M. We all went to Litchfield to go to church with Gramp and Gram Small. From there we went to Randolph to see Leo then to Oakland and up round Belgrade Lakes – down by Kents Hill to Greene. Wm. and Evelyn called. Alice served us ice cream. And her “Mother’s Day” cake. Pauline Ricker gave her then after picking dandelion greens, they went home and left me to spend few days with Alice.

Cool and fair. I rode up to Vera’s and Bobby’s in A.M. then went to Falls with Bill after groceries. Bill went to business meeting at church in eve. Bobby sick with scarlet fever.

Partly cloudy, cool. I went to Lewiston in A.M. when Em and Myrt took Sue to Dr. Miller’s to have her ears examined. Bill worked in cemetery most of day. He took the job of “caretaker” for Woodlawn in W. Bowdoin.

Clear and windy, frosty in morn. I went to “Cook’s” at Bailey’s Is. in A.M. with Everett after lobster bait. We went up to Mary Bang’s in P.M. after dandelions. Coffin House burned about 11-11.30 P.M. a short distance this side of “Brunswick Gardens” – No one living there.

Beautiful day, slightly warmer. Sandra went to “Rifle practice” – no leader. Ralph Williams passed away in A.M. at Percy Green’s.

Heavy rain and wind. Ev- took Freda and me to Gram Small’s to get boxes of flowers for Ben’s grave and Dad’s lot in Auburn. No church down here. Methodist conference in Portland.

Foggy, rainy day, clear in eve a few hours. Marian brot the boys and Gramp and Gram Small down in early morn. planning to go on a two day boat ride along the coast with dinner Sat. eve. at Boone’s but too foggy so they took Gram Small home and the rest picked up Chester at his mill and went to Mts. in N.H. for overnight camping out spree.

Foggy and some rain. Everett and I took Winnie home in A.M. and took Mr. Miller to Brunswick. Everett and Freda went out in eve. Eddie Chesser and his father spent the evening with us. They came up from W. Virginia to visit Caroline Estes and look for work. Albert Johnson and his wife came up also Madelyn Stilphen. Mr. Miller took Patty to Bath hospital in early evening.

Mostly foggy, very little sun, showers while we were at West Harpswell Grange Hall for Grammar school banquet (we all went) Freda and I and Mrs. Fletcher and children went up to Mayota’s school entertainment and party in P.M. Stephen Paul Miller born about one A.M.

Beautiful day. Freda and I walked down to store in A.M. Sandra’s school went to “Bear Pond then to mills in Lewiston. Mayota’s school went on a picnic on back shore hear Allysin’s. Mr. Miller came up in P.M. Bob Woodworth came in P.M. Stayed over night.

Nice day. Everett, Bob, Freda and I went to “Giant stair case” in A.M. after Everett took Bob out to his lobster traps. Bob went home in P.M. Everett, Freda, Jim, Mayota, Leo and several more from Gardiner went out in big boat in eve.

Cooler, partly cloudy. I went to Brunswick with Everett in late P.M. to get Clara Stevens. Gramp and Gram Small came down to supper and we all went to Sandra’s graduation from Eighth grade at “Red Men’s Hall” in eve. (34 in class) Pres. Eisenhower operated on for obstruction in his intestine.

Nice day. Sandra and I went down to see Stephen Miller in eve. Aunt Edith sick in hospital in Waterville (cancer in the stomach).

Beautiful day. Granville and a boy, Bill, William and Larry Hall came down to go fishing with Everett and children here. Had nice catches. Leo and family and Gram Small came down in eve. Had five come in for dinner and stayed overnight.

Nice day, 94° in Portland. Freda went to Brunswick with Patty Miller at noon and Everett met her there in P.M. after work and took her to Waterville for few days. Jim went to “Teen-age” dance. Sandra waited on tables at church supper. Marshall and Carrie Metcalf called.

Nice day, slightly cooler. Granville and carload from Litchfield went out in boat with Everett, Jim and Sandra in eve. Freda called from Waterville to tell us to get a room ready for Aunt Edith and Ben.

Nice day. Children went to church. I worked all day getting ready for Aunt Edith and Ben to move in. Gramp Small took Sandra to Methodist Camp in Winthrop in P.M. Everett went to Waterville for the night after work.

Beautiful day, much cooler. Everett came from Waterville about noon. Gramp Small came down to dinner, Ben came in his car and Freda came in ambulance with Aunt Edith. They moved in to stay for some time.

Nice day. Mayota and Lucy Pinkham went up to spend day with Gramp Small at his cottage. He brot them down home in P.M. and I rode up to Stewart’s with him when he went home and stayed over night. Ida Purdy there for visit until last of June.

Nice day. Winnie, Ida and I went up to our old place in P.M. Mr. Small took me home in P.M. (going to work at cottage) Mr. Miller called also Estelle Smith.

Mostly cloudy, few showers. Everett, Freda, Mayota and I went to Brunswick in P.M. Leo and family down in early eve. The Mitchells called in P.M. while we were gone. Madelyn Stilphen and Jean Doughty + Albert came up to practice for Fri.’s teen-age dance.

Mostly fair, some fog in A.M. “Bessie” was hit was hit by Mrs. Geo. Green’s car but not hurt badly. Gramp and Gram Small here in A.M. Mr. and Mrs. Lee Hooker called in P.M. Estelle Smith called in A.M. All but me went to “teen-age” dance in eve. Everett, Jim (piano), Madelyn Stilphen and Jean Doughty furnished music.

Everett, Freda, Jim and I went to Mitchell’s, then to Social Security Office in Lewiston then they left me at Doris’ new home (Mother’s place at Danville) and went to Portland to get some household things at Clara Stevens’ (roll-away-bed, blankets) Doris and I went to Lewiston in eve.

Beautiful day “Sherry” Hodgkins stayed with Cath’s and Dot’s children while they took me to Gonic, N.H. for the day. Ernest and family at home from Phil. Carlyles wife and children came at noon. We all went up to Purns’ cottage at Ayer Pond for lunch. Had very nice trip. Called at Bessie Libby’s on way home.

Donnie and Joyce went to Alysta Hutchins’ birthday party in P.M. Gramp Small took Ben Benson to Waterville to hoe his garden and look after house. Gram Small, Uncle Ray and Aunt Mary called in P.M. Everett and Freda went out in eve. Raymond Rowe and Ernest spent the day here. (First year Ray has had a car)

Everett and children went to church at 7 A.M. Freda went at 11 o’clock. Evelyn, Sue and I went to Bailey’s Is. cemetery in P.M. then watched our boat come in under bridge. Sandra baby-sat at Fletcher’s – Mayota at Buxton’s Everett and Freda went out in eve. Alice Mayne came back in P.M.

Priscilla Padolina of the Philippine Islands spoke at our church.

Beautiful in A.M. showery in late P.M. clearing in eve. Everett and Sandra went out with big boat in A.M. He took Freda and Mayota to Brunswick P.M. She talked with Dr. McFarland about Aunt Edith’s case. The Hoffmans from N.J. arrived in P.M. Mary Bangs sick in bed.

Nice day. Everett took me to Post Office to see Social Security man, then to Sadie Garland's to hunt up records and to Lisbon town clerk (Glenys Jones Thompson) to find a record of my birth. Freda went up to Mary Bangs’ to get Ruth ready to go into hospital to have blemish removed from her face.

Beautiful day. Granville and Mr. Freeman brot Granville’s Sunday school class down to take ride on boat to Pond Island for a picnic. Freda, Sandra, Mayota and Marie went with them. House filled up in P.M. Mr. Miller called. Jimmie and Mr. Munsey got first tuna.

Beautiful day. Everett took the Thurstons from Canada out fishing.
Tues. Aug. 14
Light shower during night, nice day. Everett, Freda, Mayota, and I went to Brunswick shopping in P.M. James took Winnie out for little boat ride in eve.
Wed. Aug. 15
Nice day. Winnie and I walked down to annual Library Fair in P.M. Ben went up to Gramp Small’s cottage in eve. Gramp Small called in A.M.
Thurs. Aug. 16
Very nice day. Winnie went home with Everett in early morn. Democratic convention in N.Y.
Fri. Aug. 17
Nice day. Ben went visiting all day up to Margaret Severy’s, etc. Freda and Everett went out in early eve. then he and Jimmie went to “Teen-age dance at Bailey’s.
Sat. Aug. 18
Foggy in morn, but faired off early. Everett, Freda, Sandra, Patty Mitchell and Mr. and Mrs. Thurston went out in boat all day. Gram Small, Aunt Winona and Marie called in P.M. Everett, Freda, Jim and Mayota went to Brunswick in eve.
Sun. Aug. 19
Light showers during the day. The Mitchells (3) and 2 Severys came in morn. to go on boat ride. Weather not suitable so they took Patty and went back home. Gram Small went to church down here. Everett, Sandra, Mayota and I went. Everett and Freda went up to Gramp Small’s cottage in P.M. then they took me Lands End. They went out in eve. Lewis Small and Lila called to see Aunt Edith in eve. Leo and family down in P.M.

Nice day. Everett and Freda went to Brunswick in morn. Came back in P.M.
Tues. Aug. 21
Rainy day. Freda went to meeting at church at 9 P.M. Grampa Small called. Republican Convention going on in San Francisco. Margaret and Winnie Stew- started for P.E.I with Doris and husband fro m Toronto. Ethel Belle kept house with the 2 Harveys.

Nice day. Everett and Ben went to Brunswick and Bath in A.M. Everett and Freda spent the P.M. at Gramp Small’s. Everett went to church meeting in eve. Dwight David Eisenhower nominated for U.S. President on Republican ticket.
Thurs. Aug. 23
Good day. Everett went with Jimmie on Mr. Munsey’s boat lobstering. He took the family to Litchfield in P.M. They stayed til after supper. The Browns came in P.M. for few days. Chester, Marian and David down in A.M.
Fri. Aug. 24
Showery, clearing in late P.M. Everett, Freda and I went to dump in P.M. My first Social Security check came.
Sat. Aug. 25
Beautiful day. The Thurstons left for Canada in A.M. Everett and family out in early eve.

Mostly fair, light showers in late P.M. Sandra and Mayota went to church. Everett and Freda went away in late P.M. Came home in the eve. Winnie came back from P.E.I. (and Margaret)

Beautiful day. We all got up early to deliver Sandra’s birthday presents Freda sick all day. Estelle Smith called in A.M. Geo. Brown and wife went home in P.M. (Andover, Mass.)
Tues. Aug. 28
Nice day, much warmer. Gramp and Grandma Small and Marie took Freda, Jimmie, Sandra and Mayota to Lewiston to shop. They came home from Brunswick with Everett. Eddie Chesser came down to spend the night before going back to school in West Virginia. Worked in Scarboro all summer. Jimmie went to “Drive-in” with Theberge boys.

Partly cloudy. Ben spent the day visiting relatives. Eddie left in early morn. I went to dump in eve. Freda and Everett went down the Island. Freda called on Smiths in A.M.

Rained in P.M. Ben and Jimmie went to Brunswick in P.M. Sandra moved from middle room dowhstairs to front room upstairs. (Mrs. Bradley’s old room) Jimmie moved into the house from the garage. Everett took the children and me to the “Cumberland” in eve.
Fri. Aug. 31
Rained most of the day and eve. Jimmie finished work for Mr. Munsey. Em and Hilda called in early eve. Everett, Freda and Jim went to “Teen-age” dance. Two came for room in eve.

Rainy day. Everett, Mayota and I went to Falls in A.M. to get 2 new tires put on car at Taylor’s. My back played out as my work season is cut short.

Misty and very foggy, distant thunder and rain in eve. All but Freda went to church. Mr. Miller called in P.M. Aunt Edith apparently better – sitting up in bed. Gramp and Gram Small called.

Beautiful day, much warmer. Everett, Sandra, Mayota, Ralph Miller, Carl Anderson, Sr. and Carl, Jr. went fishing all day. Everett and Freda went for ride in eve. (dump)

Good day. Gramp Small called in morn. Everett and Jimmie went to practice with orchestra in eve.

Good day. Everett and Freda went to “Board” meeting in eve. Also Jim went.

Foggy all A.M. clearing in P.M. Sandra started Brunswick High school – Jim in his sophomore year. Mr. Miller called. Rain during night.
Fri. Sept. 7th
Few sprinkles in morn. cloudy most of day. Ben spent day in Waterville. Everett and Jim played at Teen-age dance at Bailey’s Is. Gramp Small, Grandpa Dustin and Dr. (Cecil) Dustin called in late P.M. Four men from Brunswick Navy Base killed in car accident on the curve where 196 meets 201 in Topsham.

Nice day. Everett, Freda and I went to Gramp Small’s then to Litchfield Fair where Freda judged the fancy work. We shopped in Brunswick on way home. Everett and Freda went out in eve. Johnny Bisciglia taken to Togus hospital (mental trouble)
Sun. Sept. 9th
Fair and cool. Norm Merrill and Granville came down to go out in boat with Everett and the children but they had motor trouble before they started so came back about noon and left the girls and got Freda and went up to Gramp Small’s cottage to eat lunch then went up on Bath road to Witch Spring where Merrill lived when he worked in Bath. Frank Card called to see Ben and Aunt Edith also John Tarr. Estelle and Marian Smith called in eve. Marian leaving tomorrow for Albany to teach another year.
Mon. Sept 10
Fair and very cool. Freda went to Patty Miller’s in P.M. and to vote at Red Men’s Hall. Everett and I went to vote after supper, Eisenhower/Stevenson(President) Muskie-Trafton (Governor). Doris called up in A.M. to tell me they took Johnny to Togus Sat. evening. Everything in Maine went Democratic but recount ordered between Hale and Oliver.

Mostly cloudy. Had first cottage prayer meeting at our house in eve. Mr. Miller moved his organ up for the service. Mr. and Mrs. Miller and Estelle Smith were only ones here beside our family. Everett played. Aunt Edith had a hard day (vomiting).

Fair. Ben went to Brunswick in A.M. Harry Stewart, Winnie and H’s sister Ethel came down in P.M. Everett played at Richmond with Carver outfit. Estelle Smith up at noon.

Partly fair, fog part of day. Em and Hilda called in P.M. Freda went to W.S.C.S. in eve.

Cloudy, thunder shower in early evening. Chester and family came down in eve.

Mostly cloudy and cooler. Everett and James took the car to Randolph to have Leo work on it. They left Mayota at Gram Small’s. They picked up a lot of garden vegetables to bring home. Ralph, Pattie and Stevie Miller came up in P.M. Everett played at Topsham Grange Hall in eve. Freda went with him.

Showery in P.M. Mrs. Bradley left in A.M. for Nyack, N.Y. Everett and Ben went to church in A.M. Everett Freda and I went for ride in P.M. to Lisbon Falls, W. Minot, Hebron, S. Paris and down to Gray. They left me at Catherine’s to stay with her (Johnny at Togus) for a while.

Misty in A.M. Heavy rain in P.M. Doris came after Cath-, Carol and me in early morn. We picked up Maxine Hodgkins, Joyce and Earland and took Earland to Orono to go to school at U. of M. (second year) We stopped at Togus on way home so Cath- and Doris could visit Johnny.

Mostly fair, cooler, few light showers. Judy and Beverly Parker here in A.M. We went down St. in P.M. Catherine worked at Cole’s in eve. Alfred Darrow came to Belvedere to board for school year.

Nice day. Grandma Bisciglia, her brother, (Uncle Pete) Marie and her husband (Ray) and Katie arrived in P.M. They went to Togus then came back for the night. Laura and I had supper at Roy’s and I stayed all night. Doris came down in eve. to play “Rook”. Catherine worked.

Nice day. All the family except Sandra and me went to Litchfield to grind hamburg. I canned meat all day. (half a cow Everett bot) Everett and family and Alfred went to Bath to see “Moby Dick” but that wasn’t on so they came back to “Bowdoin Drive-In”.

Partly cloudy. Everett took part of family to church at Bailey’s. Mayota went to Sun. school. Everett, Freda, Sandra and I took Jimmie to Woolwich to work on C.A.P. antenna. Everett and family went down after him in eve. and they all went to see “Moby Dick”. Alfred’s grandmother called to see him then he went away ‘til early eve. Phil Rowe, Gertie and the girls here in P.M. Parson Miller called. Everett and Freda went out in big boat and had to tow it home from “Cook’s” (First time to do that)

Began raining in late P.M. Jimmie went to Litchfield with Gramp Small to help clean out Aunt Edith’s well. Ben spent part of day in Waterville. Everett Brot Margaret Stewart home with him to stay over wk-end.

Nice day. Freda and Margaret went to Brunswick shopping with Mrs. Fletcher in P.M. and came back with Everett at 4.30. Mayota went to Margaret Skillings’ birthday party. Ben took her down and went after her. Everett and Freda went to Litchfield in eve. and Brot Jimmie home.

Beautiful day. All the family except Jimmie (working at Gramp Small’s) went to White Mts. To No. Conway thru Pinkham Notch – to Dixville Notch and back by Bethel to Gray. After supper at Cole’s, they left me at Catherine’s for few weeks. Cath- worked.

Freda spent P.M. down on the boat where Ev- was working. We all went to church in eve except Alfred. Mr. Peterson from Portland began a week of special meetings. Mrs. Brown from Brunswick played piano. Chester and family were down also Gramp Small. Ronny played trombone at church. Sandra went to Brunswick with Patty Miller in late P.M. Beautiful day. Freda and Estelle Smith spent the day in Portland and Brunswick. Everett, Freda, Mayota and I went to church in eve. Mr. Haddon played piano.
Tues. Nov. 6th
Beautiful day. Hazel Johnson had supper with us to celebrate Jim’s birthday. Everett and Freda gave him a shot gun – the rest of us gave him shells and hunting license. Freda and I went to Red Men’s Hall to vote in P.M. (Eisenhower-Stevenson) then we called at Patty Miller’s. Freda and I went to church in eve. Gladys Doughty and Althea Dunlap played to organ and piano and Mr. Miller sang.

Nice day. I went to church in eve. Estelle Smith came up to breakfast before starting back to Albany for the winter. Everett didn’t work at mill in P.M. Harry Stewart and Winnie came down in P.M. Ev- and Freda went out in eve.

Fair. Everett and Freda went to Mitchell’s, Falls and Bath on errands in A.M. We all went to funeral services for Aunt Edith at Plains church in P.M. Ralph Miller went with us.

Showery, very windy in eve. Everett and James went hunting in P.M. We all went to Bailey Is. church in eve to service. Alfred left after service with the Miller’s to go home for Thanksgiving.

Nice day. Mayota went to Sun. school. All but Ev- and Alfred went to church. All of us went to Grampa Small’s in eve. (after going to Leo’s first) to celebrate his 70th birthday. All the children and grandchildren there. Mrs. Rogers (“Marm”) New furnace in church.

Snowed all day (about 4 in.) Everett and Freda went to “Board” meeting of church in eve. Jim Baby-sat for Mary Bangs. Mayota and I began using Aunt Edith’s room.
Tues. Dec. 4th
Nice day, mild. I went down to new post office. Woman ran into Nevitt’s stone wall across from out house and damaged car considerable. Everett and Freda took Sandra and Mayota to Brunswick in eve. to see Elvis Presley picture then went visiting.
Wed. Dec. 5th
Good day. Miss Steen from N.Y. came for few days while waiting for moving van to bring some furniture for house they bot. Sandra and Mayota went to choir rehearsal.
Thurs. Dec. 6th
Rained part of day, mild, no school.
Fri. Dec. 7th
Warm, showery and foggy. Moving van arrived with Miss Steen’s furniture in A.M. and she left for home in P.M. Gramp and Gram Small and Mrs. Rogers came in A.M. and had dinner with us. Gramp finished the shelf for telephone. Everett, Freda and Jimmie went to “Teen-age” dance at Bailey’s Is. Boys played.

Partly cloudy. Freda and Everett went out in P.M.

Snowed lightly most of day, about 5 in. Mayota went to Sun. school. We all went to church.
Mon. Dec. 10
Beautiful day. Mr. Miller called in P.M. Clara Stevens came with Everett for a visit.
Tues. Dec. 11
Mild, windy, cloudy in P.M. Freda sick most of day. Madelyn and Blanche Stilphen and Mr. Gilliam came in to play in Frances Small operated on at Gardiner hospital.
Wed. Dec. 12
Mostly fair and mild. Grandpa Small called at noon. Jim went to Bath with Mr. Fletcher in eve.
Thurs. Dec. 13
Rainy in A.M. Snow all gone again. Everett took Freda to missionary meeting in eve.
Fri. Dec. 14
Cloudy, colder. Began snowing in eve. Freda, Clara and I walked down to see the new post office and Called at Miller’s to bring Patty and Stevie up for lunch then we helped her address envelopes for Christmas cards to sent to Orr’s and Baileys. Clara rode to Brunswick with Mr. Miller and went home to Portland in P.M. Hilda and Brenda came down to supper and to try on a dress Freda is making for her.
Sat. Dec. 15
Snowed 4-5 in. during night, cloudy and snow showers during day. All of us but Jim went shopping in Brunswick. Rain made the roads so icy in eve. we stayed home from U.S. Gypsum Christmas entertainment at Lisbon High school.
Sun. Dec. 16
Nice day, mild. Mayota went to Sun. school. We all went to church. Everett, Freda and Mayota went to Gramp Small’s in late P.M. and to hospital to see Frances – stayed to supper. Jim spent P.M. at Bailey’s.
Mon. Dec. 17
Beautiful mild day. I fell at mail box and hurt my ankle. Everett and Jim went to Woolwich to see Ralph _____ - trouble finder for our “Gonset”.
Tues. Dec. 18
Mostly fair, cooler in P.M. Ground nearly bare again.
Wed. Dec. 19
Clear and cold. Freda baby-sat for Mrs. Fletcher in A.M. Mrs. Miller called. Jimmie went to Bath with Mr. Fletcher in eve to school. Jim and Sandra finished school for Christmas vacation.
Thurs. Dec. 20
Mostly fair. Freda and Sandra went down St. at noon. Gramp and Gram Small , Marie Flaherty, and Leo’s three boys came down in A.M. delivering Christmas presents.
Fri. Dec. 21
Partly cloudy. Freda went to school party (Mayota’s) at school house from 11 A.M. to 2.30 P.M. – dinner and entertainment. – Miss Ford teacher. Everett, Freda, Jim and I went to Brunswick in eve. They went shopping and I went to see Dr. McFarland (urine trouble)
Sat. Dec. 22
Mostly cloudy. Began snowing in eve. Everett and Freda went to Gramp Small’s and rabbit hunting and took me to Stewarts for the day.
Sun. Dec. 23
Snowed lightly all day. Mayota went to Sun. school All but Sandra went to church, she was in bed all day with cold. Jim baby-sat for Fletchers in eve. The rest of us (except Sandra) went to Children’s program at church in eve. About 3 in. of snow fell.
Mon. Dec. 24
Cloudy and drizzily in eve. Freda went to Jennie Carlson’s when Everett went to work I morn. They came home at noon. Carol singing called off. Snow nearly gone again.
Tues. Dec. 25
Rainy in A.M. Sun shone part of P.M. Chester and Marian called at 1.30 with presents before going to Margaret Severy’s for dinner. We had our tree in early morn. about 5.30 A.M. Took a ride to “Land’s End” in late P.M.
Wed. Dec. 26
Nice day., colder. Gramp and Gram Small and Leo’s three boys brot Marie Flaherty down in P.M. for a few days. Over 700 fatalities on road over the holidays.
Thurs. Dec. 27
Fair in A.M. Began snowing in late P.M. Freda baby-sat at Fletcher’s. Girls went to choir rehearsal in eve. Mr. and Mrs. Mortgrage(?) and Mr. Miller here in eve. to plan for New Years eve. service. Lawrence Estes, son - Steven and nephew - Jewel lost while hunting birds out in Casco Bay.

Snowed lightly part of day. Fair most of P.M. very little snow on ground. Estes body found near Jewel Is. Pamela Morgrage spent day and eve. here. Mr. Gilliam and Blanche Stilphen came to play in eve.

Dark, showery day. Everett Freda, Jim and I went to Brunswick in A.M. Began snowing in eve. after sleeting.
Sun. Dec. 30
Snowed about 7-8 in. during night, clearing in morn. much colder. Mayota and Marie Flaherty went to Sun. school. Jim and Sandra went to church. Marie came home after Sun. school. Freda and Everett took her home to Gram Small’s Freda stayed a few days and Everett came home in the evening. Zero in early eve. Freda’s aunt (Mary Small) passed away very suddenly. Lee Hooker passed away.
Mon. Dec. 31
2° above, snowed very little in A.M. Everett played at S. Gardiner dance in eve. Sandra baby-sat at Fletcher’s and Mayota went to Mr. Miller’s party and mid-night watch service. James and I kept house. Everett stayed at Gramp Small’s over night (what was left of it). Connie Libby and _______ Hall married.
